A ChatGPT feature that can read supported medical records, display lab results and medications, connect Apple Health data, and answer questions using personal health context is now rolling out. It is also a product most UAE users cannot access.
OpenAI says Health in ChatGPT is available to eligible logged-in Free, Go, Plus, and Pro users in the United States who are 18 or older, on web and iOS. The company says connected medical records, Apple Health information, and conversations using that data are not used to train its foundation models or target advertising.
The useful review begins at the deletion boundary. Disconnecting a health source deletes synced source data from OpenAI’s systems within 30 days, but information already carried into Health conversations remains until those conversations are deleted separately.
What ChatGPT Health Actually Does
Health is a dedicated space inside ChatGPT rather than an ordinary chat with a medical label. Eligible users can connect supported medical records and Apple Health data, view a dashboard, and ask questions grounded in information such as lab results, medications, activity, sleep, and other health data.
OpenAI positions the experience as a way to explore trends, prepare for appointments, understand test results, track wellness goals, and build questions for a healthcare professional. It repeatedly states that the feature is designed to support, not replace, medical care and is not intended for diagnosis or treatment.
The distinction matters. A product can make records easier to navigate without becoming the clinician responsible for examination, diagnosis, prescribing, or emergency decisions.
Who Can Use It Right Now
The July 23 release is limited to logged-in users in the United States who are at least 18 years old. Eligible plans are Free, Go, Plus, and Pro, and the current surfaces are web and iOS.
OpenAI has not published a UAE launch date. A resident seeing American screenshots or social posts should not assume the Health tab is hidden behind a setting, a more expensive subscription, or a failed app update.
This is different from the DHA app and Dubai Health app, which are local healthcare-service products tied to Dubai records, medical fitness, appointments, and telehealth. ChatGPT Health is currently a US consumer AI experience connecting supported record sources and wellness data.
The Privacy Architecture Is the Strongest Part
OpenAI says Health chats, memories, files, and connected information are separated from the rest of ChatGPT. Connected medical records and Apple Health information, along with conversations that use them, are not used to train the company’s foundation models or target ads.
The company says all ChatGPT chats are encrypted at rest and in transit, while synchronized connected health data receives additional encryption protections. By default, ChatGPT asks permission before using connected medical records to personalize a response, although a user can choose to allow ongoing access and turn off repeated prompts.
Those controls are meaningful, but they remain company-described safeguards. The relevant user test is whether the product makes each connection, permission, sharing action, memory, and deletion route visible enough to manage without confusion.
Disconnecting and Deleting Are Different Actions
A user can disconnect a medical-record source or Apple Health. OpenAI says the data synchronized from that source will be deleted from its systems within 30 days after disconnection.
That does not automatically remove information already included in Health conversation history. The user must delete those conversations separately. The newer help material also explains that Health memories and imported app data can have their own controls, so clearing one source does not necessarily clear every place where a health fact was referenced.
This is the original Robius insight in the product. Connection is reversible, but the path taken by the information matters. Source data, conversation history, memories, and downstream sharing are separate layers and need separate checks.
What Leaves Health and When
OpenAI says Health can take actions through another connected app when the user requests it, and that additional safeguards check whether sensitive sharing matches the request. Some actions may require a confirmation before proceeding.
That is useful, but the user should still read the destination app’s own terms. Once a training plan, summary, or other health-derived information is intentionally sent to another service, that service becomes part of the privacy chain.
Our Bayut inside ChatGPT test showed why an app embedded inside a conversational interface must still be understood as a separate product relationship. The same principle becomes more sensitive when the shared context is medical.
What the Product Does Not Prove
A clean dashboard does not prove that every imported record is current, complete, or correctly matched. A helpful explanation does not prove that a result is clinically appropriate for a particular person. And a model that recognizes a concerning pattern does not replace urgent care or emergency services.
The Abu Dhabi and MIT cancer AI hub involves research, clinical systems, and institutional accountability. A consumer AI product occupies a different layer, even when both use personal health information and advanced models.
Users should treat Health as an organizer and question-preparation tool. Any interpretation affecting medication, treatment, symptoms, pregnancy, a child, or an urgent condition belongs with a qualified healthcare professional who has the full clinical context.
The Account Controls to Check
Before connecting a health source, confirm that the ChatGPT account itself is protected with a strong password and multi-factor authentication. Review which records or wellness sources are available, then connect only what is useful for the intended task.
| Control | What it changes | What it does not automatically remove |
|---|---|---|
| Disconnect medical records or Apple Health | Stops future access and schedules synced source data for deletion within 30 days. | Health conversation text or memories that already reference the information. |
| Delete a Health conversation | Removes that conversation from the account and starts the normal deletion process. | Other Health chats, connected source data, or separate Health memories. |
| Delete a Health memory | Removes that saved memory from the Health memory controls. | The original conversation or connected medical-record source. |
| Turn off or disconnect another app | Stops future access or sharing with that app. | Information already shared with the destination under its own retention rules. |
The UAE Relevance Is About the Gap, Not a Workaround
UAE residents already use fragmented health systems across emirates, public providers, private hospitals, insurers, labs, and wellness devices. The appeal of one conversational layer is obvious, especially when records are difficult to read or spread across portals.
But the answer is not to upload every medical document into an ordinary chat and assume it has the same protections as the dedicated Health experience. The current US rollout has purpose-built separation and controls that are not identical to a normal conversation.
The UAE’s new AI and Data Authority makes local data governance increasingly important. A future UAE health integration would need clear answers on eligible record networks, consent, local data handling, correction rights, and clinical accountability.
Who Should Be Most Cautious
People managing several conditions, caregivers, and anyone handling another person’s records carry the most sensitive data. Our AI companion privacy comparison showed how conversational intimacy can encourage oversharing. Connect the minimum useful source, verify important answers with the record and a clinician, and review what remains in conversations and memories.
The Bottom Line
ChatGPT Health is a real product with stronger privacy separation than an ordinary chat and useful controls around connected records, Apple Health, permissions, training, advertising, and disconnection.
The caution is availability and lifecycle. It is currently a US-only rollout for eligible adults on web and iOS, and disconnecting a source does not automatically delete health information already written into conversations or memories.
UAE users should wait for a local release rather than trying to recreate the product by uploading a complete medical history into a normal chat. When the feature arrives, read the connection, deletion, sharing, and clinical-use boundaries before importing anything sensitive.
