The caller ID can say “bank”. The person can know your name. The script can sound professional.
None of those things proves that the call is genuine.
In March 2026, the UAE Ministry of Interior publicly denied any connection to calls coming from the number 70614213 or similar numbers and described the activity as electronic fraud and impersonation.
The request is the real tell
The ministry’s warning said official authorities do not ask people to provide personal or banking information through phone calls or unknown links. It specifically told the public not to provide sensitive identification details or verification codes.
That is more useful than trying to judge the caller’s accent, confidence or caller ID.
How vishing works
Voice phishing relies on urgency. The caller may claim there is a suspicious bank transaction, a blocked account, a residency problem or another issue that supposedly needs immediate verification.
The aim is to get the victim to reveal a one-time code, approve a banking prompt or disclose information that allows the fraudster to complete a transaction or take over an account.
What to do instead
Hang up. Open the bank’s official app or call the number printed on your card or shown on the bank’s official website.
Do not call back using a number supplied by the caller. Do not read out OTPs, PINs, CVVs or passwords. If there is genuinely an account problem, you can resolve it through a channel you initiated yourself.
The specific 70614213 warning
The Ministry of Interior’s March statement is unusually direct: it said the ministry and its agencies had no connection to calls from 70614213 or similar numbers and that the attempts were part of fraud and identity impersonation.
That number may not remain the only one used. The behaviour matters more than the number.
The bottom line
Caller ID is not authentication. A person asking for codes or banking details over an unsolicited call is giving you the reason to stop the call, not the reason to trust it.
