mb.io says UAE users can fund a crypto account through Botim. The convenience is easy to understand. The legal structure is not.
The announcement brings together the mb.io trading brand, MBIO FZE on Dubai’s virtual-asset register, botim Money Technology LLC in the wallet terms and the wider MultiBank Group name. Those names sit in the same customer journey, but they do not perform the same job.
A payment license covers the movement and safeguarding of money; a virtual-asset license covers authorized crypto services. Neither removes market loss.
UAE residents considering funding an mb.io account from Botim or relying on the MultiBank brand as proof of account protection.
The public VARA entry does not identify the client-asset custodian or prove that every product, funding method or withdrawal path is available to every retail user.
The company-announced integration needs to be checked against the live UAE app flow, account agreement, fees and withdrawal process.
Start with a small amount, save the accepted terms and test a withdrawal before moving a material balance.
Existing Botim users who want a faster funding route and mb.io, which gains access to a familiar UAE payment interface.
VARA lists MBIO FZE as permitted to serve institutional, qualified and retail investors, subject to product and onboarding rules.
Watch the legal entity on the account terms, deposit and withdrawal fees, supported assets, processing times and any compliance holds.
The licensing evidence is strong enough to reject the simple “unlicensed platform” label. It is not strong enough to skip the account-level checks that decide where your money and crypto actually sit.
Start With the Entity on the Register
VARA’s current English-language public register lists MBIO FZE, trading as MB.IO, under reference VL/24/06/001. The status is Active. The authorized activities are Broker-Dealer Services and Exchange Services, and the license condition permits service to institutional, qualified and retail investors.
That is meaningful. It confirms that a Dubai regulator has authorized a specific legal entity for specific virtual-asset activities. It does not turn every MultiBank-branded product into a UAE-regulated product, and it does not tell you which company appears in the agreement presented inside your account.
There is also a naming wrinkle. VARA’s Arabic register still shows MEX Digital FZE for the same reference and website, while the current English record shows MBIO FZE. The matching license reference reduces the risk of confusing two separate permissions, but the live customer terms should still use a name you can match back to the register.
This is the same problem Robius found in our wider MultiBank Group investigation: the brand customers recognize is not automatically the legal entity holding their account.
The Botim Side Covers the Payment Leg
Astra Tech’s current platform terms identify botim Money Technology LLC, UAE registration number 3018388, as the provider of the botim Money wallet. The terms state that the company is regulated by the UAE Central Bank to provide stored-value facilities and certain payment services.
The same terms say wallet funds are protected in a dedicated account with a bank licensed by the UAE Central Bank until the funds are paid out or redeemed. That protection applies to money held in the wallet under those terms. It should not be read as protection against a crypto asset losing value after the money leaves the wallet.
Robius did not locate a matching live CBUAE public-register page during this check. So the payment status is attributed to the current official terms rather than described as independently matched to a public register. That gap is not evidence of wrongdoing. It is a reason to keep the evidence label precise.
For comparison, our Botim Money remittance review looked at fees and value when money is sent to another person. Funding a volatile asset adds a separate layer of risk after the payment succeeds.
Who Covers What
| Name | Evidence Checked | What It Covers | What It Does Not Answer |
|---|---|---|---|
| MBIO FZE (MB.IO) | Active VARA record VL/24/06/001. | Broker-dealer and exchange services; retail investors permitted. | The exact custodian, account entity and terms shown to each user. |
| botim Money Technology LLC | Current Astra Tech wallet terms state UAE Central Bank regulation. | Stored-value wallet and certain payment services used for the funding leg. | Whether the crypto trade is suitable, profitable or reversible. |
| MultiBank Group | Group and brand context. | The wider business associated with the product announcement. | Which licensed entity holds one specific UAE customer account. |
A Funding Rail Is Not a Product Approval
The integration can be convenient without making the underlying investment safer. A fast deposit reduces steps between interest and execution. That is useful for a deliberate purchase and risky for an impulsive one.
VARA’s license says MBIO FZE may provide the listed services. It does not promise a return, guarantee liquidity or reverse a loss. It also does not add derivatives to the public record. A user should compare the product offered in the app with the activities on the register instead of assuming the group offers the same catalog everywhere.
The direction of the money matters too. Deposits are usually the smoothest part of a trading platform. Withdrawals reveal the operational terms: identity reviews, source-of-funds checks, processing times, network fees, bank limits and the name of the entity sending the money back.
That leads to the original Robius insight: one-tap funding turns a legal-entity check into part of the product experience. The fewer screens a deposit requires, the more important it is that the account entity, fees and withdrawal path are visible before the final tap.
Five Checks Before You Fund
- Open the VARA register and search for MBIO FZE. Match the reference, status and permitted activities instead of relying on a regulator logo inside an advertisement.
- Read the account agreement shown during onboarding. The legal entity in that agreement matters more than the MultiBank Group name at the top of a campaign.
- Find the custody language. Check who holds the virtual assets, whether assets are pooled and what happens if the service is suspended.
- Capture the full fee path. Include the Botim funding charge, mb.io trading fee, conversion spread, network fee and withdrawal fee where applicable.
- Deposit a small amount and test a withdrawal to your own bank or wallet before treating the route as proven for a larger balance.

The Bottom Line
mb.io is not presenting an anonymous brand with no visible UAE permission. MBIO FZE appears as an active VARA-regulated entity with broker-dealer and exchange permissions and retail eligibility. That is the strongest fact in the file.
The remaining questions sit below the headline: the exact contracting entity, custody arrangement, full fee path and withdrawal mechanics. Botim can make the first transfer easier. It cannot answer those questions for you, and its payment regulation cannot protect you from the asset you choose to buy.
