One useful new payment feature arrived in the UAE this week with a launch claim that does not survive a basic source check.
Technology Express reported on August 11 that BOTIM and Mastercard have launched Mastercard One Credential for eligible BOTIM cardholders, allowing one card experience to connect to more than one funding source. The product concept is real and potentially useful. But the same report calls it the first One Credential rollout in the UAE and across EEMEA. Mastercard’s own public record says otherwise.
Eligible BOTIM users could get one card that routes purchases to different funding methods, reducing the need to switch between separate cards.
BOTIM money cardholders and UAE residents comparing wallet, credit and installment products should pay attention to the rollout terms.
One credential could consolidate prepaid, credit and installment choices inside a familiar app and card experience.
BOTIM-specific credit terms remain unclear, and the reported "first in UAE" claim conflicts with Mastercard’s own 2025 record.
Watch for a BOTIM or Mastercard product page, Key Facts Statement and in-app rollout that identifies eligibility and the credit provider.
If the feature appears in your app, check the selected funding source and total repayment cost before authorizing a purchase.
Eligible BOTIM users gain a simpler payment layer, while BOTIM and Mastercard gain a stronger everyday-finance proposition.
Technology Express says eligible BOTIM cardholders; BOTIM has not yet published a rollout page with full eligibility, pricing or credit criteria.

What One Credential Actually Changes
Mastercard describes One Credential as a single digitally connected credential that can give an eligible user access to different funding methods, which may include debit, credit, prepaid and installments. The user enrolls through an app, selects the available funding methods and can set payment preferences. The card stays familiar. What changes is the source of money sitting behind it.
Technology Express says the BOTIM version will let eligible cardholders switch between prepaid balances and credit funding, use multiple currencies and convert purchases into installments. Robius could not find a same-day BOTIM or Mastercard product page confirming the exact BOTIM feature set, so those rollout details should still be treated as reported rather than fully primary-confirmed.
The distinction matters because One Credential is not automatically a new bank account, and it does not mean every payment option is available to every user. If you already use one of the UAE’s many wallet products, our UAE digital wallet comparison explains why the legal structure underneath the app matters more than the icon on your phone.
The “First in UAE” Claim Does Not Add Up
This is the part Robius would not publish unchanged. Technology Express says the BOTIM launch is the first rollout of Mastercard One Credential in the UAE and EEMEA.
Mastercard announced One Credential on February 19, 2025 and stated that the product was already live in the UAE with Wio Bank. In the same Mastercard material, Wio chief commercial officer Prateek Vahie said the bank was first to market with One Credential. Mastercard’s current One Credential product page still carries that Wio first-to-market statement.
There may be a narrower claim that is true, such as BOTIM being first to combine a specific prepaid, credit or installment configuration through this product in a particular segment. But that is not how the Technology Express article qualifies the statement. On the evidence available today, the broad claim that this is the first UAE One Credential rollout conflicts with Mastercard’s own record.
That is also a useful reminder when reading payments launches. Product names can be new to one app without being new to the country. Our Wio, Liv and Mashreq Neo comparison already treats Wio as an established UAE digital-bank product, not a new entrant.
Who Actually Issues the BOTIM Card
BOTIM is a brand and an app. The regulated financial entities underneath it are more specific.
BOTIM’s current platform terms say wallet and card services are provided by botim Money Technology LLC, registration number 3018388, and that this entity issues the BOTIM Money card. The Central Bank of the UAE’s June 2026 register lists Botim Money Technology L.L.C. under both Stored Value Facilities and Retail Payment Services.
The same BOTIM terms separate lending services from card services. Lending is provided by Quantix Technology Projects LLC. The CBUAE register lists Quantix as a national conventional finance company. That does not prove Quantix is the credit provider behind the new One Credential feature. Robius has not found a primary product document that identifies the credit source for this rollout.
It does show why the name on the agreement matters. If One Credential lets you move from prepaid money into credit or installments, read the Key Facts Statement or credit agreement and check which company is actually lending. The convenience can be one tap. The legal relationship is not.
BOTIM Is Becoming a Financial App, Not Just a Calling App
This launch fits a much larger change inside BOTIM. Mastercard and botim money expanded their multi-year card agreement in May 2026. Mastercard said the cards were being offered without a minimum salary requirement and that the companies had a joint roadmap for additional payment and financial-services use cases.
BOTIM already offers a wallet, cards, transfers and lending-related services across different group entities. In our BOTIM Money remittance comparison, we argued that the app’s advantage is distribution. Millions of residents already know the app for communication, so every financial feature starts closer to an existing habit than a brand-new fintech does.
That strategy also sits inside Dubai’s wider cashless transition. More payments are moving into cards, wallets and app-based flows. A product that lets one credential choose between multiple funding methods makes sense in that environment because the user does not have to consciously switch payment products at checkout.
The Useful Part Is Choice. The Expensive Part Could Be Credit
The strongest consumer benefit is simple. One card can become a front door to several ways of paying. That can reduce clutter and make it easier to choose prepaid funds for one purchase and credit or installments for another.
But the technology does not make credit cheap. The card can simplify the route into borrowing without changing the economics of the borrowing itself. Until BOTIM publishes the specific eligibility rules, rates, fees, repayment terms and installment conditions for this feature, nobody should assume that a smoother checkout means a better financing deal.
That is especially important if the system can automatically apply preferences by transaction type or amount. Convenience is useful when the preference matches what you intended. It is expensive when a purchase that could have come from stored funds quietly routes into credit.
What BOTIM Users Should Check Before Using It
If One Credential appears in your BOTIM app, start with the screen most people skip. Check which funding methods are actually available to your account, which entity provides each one, and whether the app shows the total cost before you confirm.
For credit or installments, look for the Key Facts Statement, APR or equivalent cost disclosure, repayment schedule, late-payment consequences and any conversion or foreign-exchange charges. For multi-currency spending, check which balance is selected first and what happens when that balance is insufficient.
The technology itself is credible. Mastercard has been building One Credential as a network-level product since 2025, and BOTIM’s broader Mastercard relationship is independently confirmed. The new BOTIM rollout is therefore plausible and useful. The reporting around it just needs the same thing the product promises its users: better control over which source you are actually relying on.
