Dubai’s New Scam Campaign Has One Useful Rule: Pause Before You Respond

Dubai’s October anti-scam campaign targets impersonation, deceptive messages and AI-generated voices, images and documents. The useful part is the behavioural rule behind it: pause, verify, then act.

Dubai has launched another anti-scam campaign.

The useful part is not the campaign name. It is the behavioural rule underneath it: pause before you respond.

The “Don’t Get Played” campaign runs through October as part of Cybersecurity Awareness Month and focuses on impersonation, deceptive messages and fraud using AI-generated voices, images and documents.

The scam has changed. The decision point has not.

AI can make a fake voice note sound more convincing. It can make a document look cleaner. It can produce a believable image in seconds.

But the scam still needs the victim to do something.

Click the link. Send the money. Share the OTP. Install the app. Approve the login.

That is why “pause and verify” is more useful than memorising every new scam format.

Dubai is pushing the same pattern Robius keeps seeing

Our 2026 UAE scam-pattern analysis found that the surface changes more often than the mechanics. Authority impersonation, urgency and control of the payment or verification channel keep coming back.

Dubai’s campaign is effectively trying to interrupt that sequence before the final action.

AI raises the quality of the fake, not the legitimacy

An AI-generated voice that sounds like your manager does not make a payment request safer.

A document carrying a familiar logo does not prove the sender owns the domain.

A video that looks like a public official does not mean the account posting it is official.

The verification step has to move outside the message that created the urgency.

A practical verification rule

  • If the message claims to be from your bank, open the bank app yourself.
  • If it claims to be from government, use the official app or website you already know.
  • If it comes from a colleague or family member asking for money, call them through a separate channel.
  • If it asks for remote access or an app installation, stop.

If money has already moved

The campaign is about prevention. Recovery is a different problem.

Robius has a separate UAE scam-reporting guide covering the practical order: financial institution first if money moved, then police and the relevant regulator or platform where needed.

The Robius Read

Cybersecurity campaigns often fail when they give people a long list of warnings to remember.

This one has a better core idea.

The technology behind the scam can change. Your response does not have to.

Pause. Verify somewhere else. Then act.
