GDRFA Dubai launched Click & Travel on September 7 after a pilot that processed 31,373 transactions from May through August 31. Officers use mobile devices connected to GDRFA systems and biometric verification to complete entry or departure procedures at a passenger’s location inside the airport terminal. GDRFA says a transaction takes about 12 to 15 seconds.
Mobile passport processing can reduce fixed waiting points during busy periods, but it is an operational airport tool rather than a new lane every traveler can demand.

The headline is easy to misunderstand. Click & Travel is not a new passenger app, paid fast-track product or booking option. The official launch describes it as a tool officers can deploy when needed, including periods of increased traffic and operational pressure.
Who Actually Gets the Mobile Check
The eligibility split matters because departure and arrival are not the same yet.

That difference is more useful than the launch superlative. GDRFA describes Click & Travel as a world-first mobile passport-control service. Robius would rather focus on the operating rule: departure is broader than arrival, and the service appears when airport teams choose to deploy it.
Twelve Seconds Is a Transaction Time, Not Your Airport Time
GDRFA says identity verification and transaction completion can happen in roughly 12 to 15 seconds. That is the processing step on the device. It is not a promise that you will clear immigration 12 seconds after stepping off an aircraft or arriving at the terminal.
You can still have walking time, queues, document questions, enhanced checks or other airport procedures around that transaction. The safer interpretation is that the handheld workflow can make the immigration step faster when an officer reaches you and the case is straightforward.

The Interesting Part Is Where the Officer Can Work
The device itself is not the real story. The operational change is that passport control is no longer tied only to a fixed counter or gate. An officer can securely access passenger information, verify identity and complete a procedure from another point inside the terminal.
For an airport, that changes resource allocation. Instead of every extra passenger needing to move toward the same service point, GDRFA can move some service capacity toward the passenger. During a sudden arrival wave, disruption or busy departure window, that flexibility can matter more than shaving a few seconds from the scan.
Dubai residents already interact with the same authority through the GDRFA DXB app, while UAE PASS increasingly acts as the identity and consent layer across digital government. Click & Travel takes the same broader direction into the physical airport: verified digital systems moving closer to the point where the person actually needs them.
Do Not Build Your Travel Plan Around It Yet
A useful new airport service can become bad travel advice when a pilot capability is treated as a guaranteed passenger entitlement.
GDRFA says Click & Travel is operationally ready and has already handled more than 31,000 pilot transactions. It also says the service can be deployed when needed. Those statements do not mean every terminal, flight or passenger will see a mobile officer on every trip.
So arrive on the same schedule you normally would. Keep your passport and travel documents accessible. Do not assume a mobile officer will replace the normal immigration route. If the service reaches you, treat it as a faster workflow inside the existing immigration system, not a separate product you booked.

What to Watch Next
The next meaningful update is not another demo video. It is broader operating scope.
GDRFA says the arrival service can expand beyond citizens and residents, and that other passenger-journey services may eventually be delivered through the same mobile-device model. Those changes would tell us whether Click & Travel remains a pressure-relief tool or becomes a normal part of the airport experience.
For now, the practical conclusion is simple. Dubai has made passport control mobile. That can reduce friction. It has not made the normal airport process optional.
