Five Apps Are Fighting to Be Your UAE Wallet. Here Is What Each One Actually Does Best.

Dubai is targeting 90% of transactions to be cashless by the end of 2026. Five platforms are competing hardest to be the one UAE residents use every day. Careem Pay. e& money. Payit. BOTIM Money. Ziina. All five hold CBUAE licenses. All five want to be the app you reach for at checkout, at a restaurant, and when splitting bills with friends.

They are not the same product. Here is what each one is actually built for.

THE ROBIUS VERDICT: All five are legitimate, CBUAE-licensed digital payment platforms. The right one depends on which financial services you already use and what you need the wallet to do. Careem Pay wins for existing Careem users who want rides, food, and payments in one ecosystem. e& money wins for Etisalat subscribers who want telco and payments integrated. Payit wins for FAB customers wanting direct bank wallet integration. BOTIM Money wins for residents needing financial inclusion tools, remittances, and an IBAN-enabled wallet. Ziina wins for P2P payments, bill splits, and UAE Open Finance integration.

Careem Pay

Careem Pay started as the payment layer inside the Careem rides app. It is now a full digital wallet with bill payments, international remittances to 30-plus countries, and in-store QR payments.

Careem Plus members get zero fees on international remittances to India and Pakistan. The wallet integrates directly with the Careem Food and Quik grocery services, meaning rewards and cashback accumulate across the whole Careem ecosystem. Best for: existing Careem users who want rides, food, and payments on one account. Not built for merchants or businesses.

e& Money

e& money is the digital wallet from the Etisalat parent group. It integrates your phone bill and your digital wallet in a single account. NFC tap payments, peer-to-peer transfers, bill payments, and a Mastercard prepaid card are all included.

The key advantage for Etisalat subscribers is unified billing. One app for your phone plan and your everyday payments. e& money also supports international transfers and basic savings features. Best for: UAE residents already on Etisalat who want convenience over features. Less differentiated for non-Etisalat users.

Payit

Payit is backed by First Abu Dhabi Bank and integrates most closely with the UAE banking system of the five platforms. Direct FAB account connection, Aani instant payment integration, and a Visa-powered prepaid card are the core features.

UAE government salary transfers and MOHRE-registered WPS payments work directly through Payit for eligible workers. This makes it specifically useful for residents whose employers use FAB as their payroll bank. Best for: FAB account holders and workers receiving WPS salary payments who want banking and wallet in one place.

BOTIM Money

BOTIM Money is the most feature-dense platform in this comparison. The company reports over 150 million users globally for the BOTIM app. IBAN-enabled wallets launched in June 2026. SVF and Retail Payment Services licenses from the CBUAE. MOHRE WPS accreditation. National Bonds and fractional gold investment from AED 10. Remittances to 150-plus countries.

The June 2026 IBAN wallet launch means eligible users can now receive salaries directly into their BOTIM wallet, the same as a bank account. This is the most significant financial inclusion tool of any platform in this comparison. Best for: residents who need an alternative to traditional banking, blue-collar workers receiving WPS salary, and anyone sending money internationally who wants in-app chat alongside transfers.

Ziina

Ziina was founded in Dubai in 2020 by siblings Faisal and Sarah Toukan together with Andrew Gold. The company reports over 260,000 businesses and consumers on the platform. It holds a CBUAE SVF licence. In January 2026 it became the first entity in the UAE to execute a live customer-initiated Open Finance payment under the CBUAE framework. In June 2026 it launched One-Tap Pay by Bank with Lean Technologies, the first recurring Open Finance payment experience in the UAE.

The peer-to-peer experience is the cleanest of the five platforms. Send money to a contact from your phone book without knowing their IBAN. Split a restaurant bill across a group in seconds. Fund your wallet with a single tap via your connected bank account. Zero FX markup on card transactions. Visa-powered digital card through Apple Wallet.

The honest limit: some users report the daily bank connection ping from Lean Technologies generating login detected notifications from their bank. This is a known characteristic of Open Finance bank connections, not a security breach. But it surprises users who do not expect it. Best for: UAE residents wanting the cleanest P2P experience, bill splitting, and the most forward-looking Open Finance integration. Not built as a full-service remittance tool.
