Rides: Still One of the Main Reasons to Open Careem
Careem’s current UAE ride product includes private rides and taxi options, while the company says rides can be booked 24/7 across its wider regional network.
In Dubai, Careem also provides access to Hala Taxi. The important distinction is that pricing, waiting time and vehicle availability can change by location and time, so Robius is no longer making blanket claims such as “Careem surges less than Uber” without a reproducible same-route comparison.
If you are comparing Careem with another ride app, check the actual fare, estimated pickup and vehicle category shown for the same journey at the time you intend to travel.
Food: Broad Coverage, but Delivery Quality Is Not Something Robius Can Infer From Eight Undocumented Orders
Careem currently says its Food service offers access to about 9,500 restaurants, including more than 9,000 in Dubai, with 24/7 ordering availability.
The old Robius article said three of eight test orders arrived late, two arrived at room temperature and one missing-item case took four days and three support contacts. Those figures are gone because we could not substantiate the underlying orders.
Careem’s own current guidance says delivery times vary by restaurant and location and are displayed in the restaurant section. If food does not arrive or an item is missing, Careem directs customers to open the order in the app and contact support from there.
Careem’s technology terms also make an important distinction: restaurant partners remain responsible for the accuracy, quality, ingredients and condition of meals, while Careem can facilitate complaints between the customer and the restaurant.
Quik: The Grocery Product Has Changed Since the Old Review
The previous article referred to “Careem Now” as the grocery service. The current Careem product is Quik.
Careem markets Quik around rapid delivery and currently says orders can arrive in as little as 15 minutes. That is a company service claim, not a Robius-measured average delivery time.
Careem also advertises a 100% Quality Guarantee for Quik, with an instant refund if an item is spoiled, damaged or missing. Separately, the app offers supermarket ordering from partner stores. Careem’s terms distinguish between Quik, where Careem or the relevant affiliate is responsible for the service, and partner-supermarket orders, where the partner remains responsible for the groceries themselves.
Careem Pay Is Much Broader Than an In-App Wallet Now
The old article described Careem Pay mainly as a wallet useful inside the Careem ecosystem. That is no longer the full picture.
Careem Pay currently supports paying bills and recharges, sending and requesting money locally by phone number, using wallet balance across Careem, and sending money from the UAE to more than 30 countries.
For international transfers, Careem says the service operates in partnership with Lulu Exchange and is authorised and regulated by the Central Bank of the UAE. Identity verification is required for the Send Abroad service.
Careem also says verified users can transfer some or all of their wallet balance to a bank account. That makes the 2026 Pay product materially different from the closed-loop wallet described in the earlier review.
Careem Plus: The Bundle Is the Real Super-App Strategy
Careem Plus is the clearest example of how the company is trying to make the different services reinforce one another.
The current UAE membership page advertises benefits including 10% back on 10 rides and Hala Taxi trips credited to the Careem Pay wallet, unlimited free Food delivery, unlimited free Quik grocery delivery, DineOut offers, bike discounts, member rates on global transfers and discounts on selected home services.
Whether the subscription pays for itself depends entirely on which of those services you already use. A person ordering food and groceries several times a month has a different value calculation from someone who opens Careem only for an occasional taxi.
Do Not Turn a Service Catalogue Into a Quality Ranking
The original article declared Careem Food the “weakest link,” recommended Talabat or Deliveroo for hot food, said Careem Now was only good for small top-up shops and called rides “excellent” based on an undocumented month of use.
Those are experiential claims that need a real test design: comparable locations, times, order values, restaurants or stores, repeated observations and a documented scoring method. Without that, they are anecdotes presented as a product review.
For this 2026 update, Robius is separating two things: what Careem currently offers, which can be verified, and how reliably each service performs for every user, which cannot be established from an undocumented handful of transactions.
What to Compare Before Making Careem Your Default App
- Rides: compare the live fare, pickup estimate and vehicle category for the same journey.
- Food: compare the restaurant, menu price, delivery fee, estimated arrival and any subscription discount.
- Groceries: distinguish between Quik and partner supermarkets, because availability, responsibility and delivery promises can differ.
- Pay: check the live exchange rate, fees and recipient amount before sending money abroad.
- Careem Plus: calculate value using services you already buy rather than promotional “potential savings.”
- Support: use the order-specific Help route in the app and keep screenshots or order records when a dispute matters.
The Bottom Line
Careem in 2026 is no longer accurately described as a ride app with a few extras. The UAE app now spans transport, restaurant delivery, rapid groceries, partner supermarkets, payments, local transfers, international remittances, dining offers and other on-demand services.
That breadth does not prove every service is best in its category. It does make the app more useful for someone who values having several everyday services, one wallet and one membership system connected in one place.
The old Robius article tried to settle the quality question with a month-long test we cannot substantiate. The stronger 2026 answer is simpler: evaluate the specific Careem services you actually use against the alternatives you actually have, and judge the bundle on live price, convenience and your own repeat experience.
