‘No More.’ The FBI Director Just Put Crypto Fraudsters on Notice, and the UAE Is Named as a Partner

In June 2026, FBI Director Kash Patel publicly warned cryptocurrency fraudsters that the bureau would pursue people targeting Americans through crypto scams.

The statement was headline-friendly. The more useful evidence sits underneath it: the FBI’s own complaint data and an enforcement programme that predates the post.

The losses are measurable

The FBI’s 2025 Internet Crime Report recorded 181,565 complaints involving cryptocurrency and more than $11.3 billion in reported losses. Investment fraud remained one of the largest drivers of scam losses.

Those figures are complaint data, not a measure of every crypto transaction or every loss worldwide. They show the scale of reported US victimisation.

Operation Level Up is the operational piece

The FBI launched Operation Level Up in 2024 to identify people who appear to be in active cryptocurrency investment scams and warn them before they send more money.

The FBI says the programme had notified more than 8,000 potential victims by late 2025 and estimated that its interventions had prevented more than $500 million in additional losses.

Where the UAE connection comes in

On 29 April 2026, Dubai Police announced that it had led a joint operation with the FBI and Chinese police against transnational fraud networks. Authorities reported 276 arrests and nine fraud centres dismantled, linked to high-yield investment scams, “pig butchering” and virtual-currency fraud.

That is the concrete UAE connection: cross-border enforcement cooperation against the same scam category the FBI describes in Operation Level Up.

What the warning does not mean

A public statement from an FBI director is not, by itself, a new law or new enforcement power. The underlying programme, complaint data and joint investigations are the evidence that matters.

For victims, the FBI’s guidance is to stop sending money, preserve transaction information and report cryptocurrency investment fraud through IC3.

The bottom line

The important story is not the rhetoric of “no more.” It is that crypto investment fraud is producing billions in reported losses and is being pursued through increasingly coordinated international investigations.
