This is not financial advice.
Historical update: this article covers Boyco’s pre-launch liquidity program before Berachain mainnet went live on February 6, 2025.
The headline number was real. Boyco attracted roughly $2.2 billion in pre-deposited assets before Berachain launched its mainnet.
But the old Robius article repeated the launch language without explaining what that number represented. It was not $2.2 billion of Enso revenue. It was not proof of $2.2 billion in permanent activity on Berachain. It was capital that users committed to pre-launch liquidity markets in exchange for incentives.
What Boyco was trying to solve
New DeFi networks have a cold-start problem. Applications need liquidity before users want to trade, lend or borrow, but liquidity providers often wait until there is already activity.
Boyco, built around Royco markets, let applications publish incentive offers before mainnet launch. Liquidity providers could commit assets in advance, with those assets intended to move into participating applications when Berachain went live.
Where Enso fit
The January 2025 announcement said Enso provided execution infrastructure for Boyco. Its “Shortcuts” product was used to package multi-step DeFi actions so deposited assets could be routed into participating applications.
That is useful infrastructure. It is not the same thing as saying Enso itself controlled, owned or earned the billions of dollars deposited into Boyco.
Why pre-deposit TVL needs a label
Pre-launch TVL can show that incentives succeeded in attracting capital. It does not tell you how much of that capital will remain after lockups or incentives end, whether applications will gain durable users, or whether liquidity will be profitable for depositors.
That distinction matters whenever a crypto launch uses a giant TVL number as evidence of product-market fit.
What happened next
Berachain mainnet officially launched on February 6, 2025. That converted Boyco from a pre-launch capital-coordination story into a live-network test: would the deposited liquidity turn into sustained use?
The useful Robius question was never “did Boyco attract $2 billion?” It did. The useful question was what happened to that liquidity once the incentives met a live network.
