Japan’s Metaplanet has disclosed the acquisition of an additional 1,088 Bitcoin (BTC), increasing its total holdings to 8,888 BTC, valued at roughly $930 million.

The recent acquisition incurred an expense of around 16.885 billion Japanese yen, translating to $117.5 million, with each Bitcoin valued at roughly 15.5 million yen or $108,051. This news follows the company’s previous sale of $50 million in zero-interest bonds.

This recent acquisition brings Metaplanet nearer to its objective of possessing 10,000 BTC by year-end. The corporation has been diligently augmenting its Bitcoin reserves, having procured 7,126 BTC in 2025 alone.

Following the implementation of a Bitcoin treasury strategy in April 2024, Metaplanet has rapidly ascended to become Asia’s largest publicly traded Bitcoin holding and is positioned among the top 10 holders worldwide. MicroStrategy continues to be the main holder, owning 580,250 BTC.

Simon Gerovich, CEO of Metaplanet, has identified MicroStrategy’s policy of treating Bitcoin as a treasury asset, especially the impact of its executive chairman, Michael Saylor, as a major influence on Metaplanet’s approach. In the wake of the achievements of MicroStrategy and Metaplanet, numerous other firms have been investigating analogous cryptocurrency treasury techniques.

Michael Saylor’s company also revealed that it bought 705 more Bitcoin, marking eighth straight week of purchases.
