The short answer

Perplexity remains useful for current web research because it puts citations beside its answers. But several details in the old review are no longer current: Model Council access changed, Computer is no longer a separate $200 product, and…

Perplexity’s clearest strength in 2026 is still simple: it searches the web, synthesizes an answer and places citations beside the claims.

That makes it useful for current research. It does not make every cited answer correct.

This review was refreshed on 9 September 2026 because several product and pricing details in the earlier version had already changed.

Verdict: recommended for research, with source checking

Perplexity is a strong fit if your main job is finding recent information, comparing sources and getting quickly to the original material.

The important caveat is that a citation is a route to verification, not verification itself. Perplexity can select a weak source, misunderstand a source or attach a citation that does not fully support the sentence it generated. Open the important links.

The current individual plans

At our last check, Perplexity listed three main individual tiers: Free, Pro at $20 per month, and Max at $200 per month. Pricing and limits can change, so check the live pricing page before subscribing.

The Free plan provides basic search with citations and limited higher-end usage. Perplexity’s current help documentation no longer describes the free allowance as a fixed “five Pro searches per day,” so the old number has been removed.

Pro raises usage limits, adds access to advanced models, preferred model selection, Deep Research, file features and expanded Computer access.

Max is the heavy-usage tier with higher limits and additional frontier features.

Model Council: the old review had the wrong plan

Model Council runs the same question through multiple AI models and synthesizes where they agree or disagree.

Perplexity’s current help center says Model Council on the web and iOS is included with Max and Enterprise Max, not ordinary Pro. Inside Perplexity Computer, Model Council can be used on paid plans through Computer credits.

That is a meaningful correction because the earlier Robius review presented Model Council as a standard Pro feature.

Computer also changed

Perplexity Computer is an agent-style workspace for longer tasks across web research, files and connected services. When it launched in February 2026 it was initially positioned around Max access.

By September, Perplexity’s pricing page showed Computer access inside paid plans rather than as the separate “$200/month Computer plan” described in the old article. Usage is tied to plan allowances and credits.

What Perplexity does well

Current-event research. Search and citation are still the core product advantage. It is particularly useful when the answer depends on information published recently.

Source discovery. Even when you do not trust the generated summary, Perplexity can be an efficient way to surface primary documents and relevant reporting.

Deep Research and multi-step work. Paid plans now extend beyond search into longer research and Computer workflows.

Where it falls short

Source quality varies. An official regulator, a company blog, a Wikipedia page and an SEO site can all appear in the same research trail. The user still has to rank the evidence.

Citations can create false confidence. A linked source can be real while the generated sentence overstates what it says.

“Best AI search tool” is not a fact. The right choice depends on whether you value research, writing, coding, connected work or another use case. The old Robius verdict was too absolute.

For UAE users

Perplexity can be useful for finding UAE regulatory updates and local reporting, but the same source rule applies. For a licence, legal requirement or government service, follow the citation back to the official CMA, DFSA, FSRA, VARA, CBUAE or government source before acting.

The Robius takeaway

Use Perplexity when you want a fast research layer over the web. Do not outsource the final evidence check to it.

Start with the free tier. Upgrade when your actual usage hits a limit that a paid plan solves. That is a better buying rule than assuming Pro is automatically “worth it.”

Robius has no commercial relationship with Perplexity.
