Indian travelers can now pay for an At the Top, Burj Khalifa booking with UPI before they arrive in Dubai. That sounds like a small checkout update. For frequent UPI users, it removes one familiar source of travel friction: reaching for an international card just to reserve an attraction.
The payment option was reported on July 29 as a collaboration involving NPCI International Payments Limited, UAE payment provider NEOPAY, and Emaar Entertainment. The Economic Times described At the Top as the first UAE attraction to accept UPI for an online booking.
The useful question is not whether the payment rail is real. It is. The questions are who can use it, what exchange rate appears at checkout, where a failed or refunded payment goes, and how to avoid a fake booking page.
| T H E R O B I U S V E R D I C T LEGIT: A real payment option on the official At the Top booking flow, built for eligible UPI users with Indian bank accounts. Convenient for Indian visitors who already use UPI. It is not a universal Dubai wallet, and Robius did not complete a live UPI purchase. Check the final amount, refund terms, and official domain before authorizing payment. |
What Actually Launched
The new option lets eligible customers use UPI when buying At the Top tickets online. UPI is the instant payment system developed by the National Payments Corporation of India. It links participating bank accounts and approved apps to real-time payment instructions.
The Dubai rollout brings together NIPL, which takes UPI acceptance outside India, NEOPAY as a UAE payment infrastructure partner, and Emaar Entertainment as the attraction operator. The practical benefit is that an Indian visitor can make the booking before travel without entering a card number into the attraction checkout.
This is narrower than “UPI now works everywhere in Dubai.” NIPL lists a growing UAE acceptance network, but acceptance still depends on the specific merchant and checkout. A UPI user should look for the option on the official payment page rather than assume any Emaar or Dubai attraction will support it.
Who This Is Actually For
The clearest user is an Indian traveler with an active UPI setup connected to a supported Indian bank account. The payment approval should happen inside the user’s UPI or banking app, where the payer confirms the transaction with the normal security process.
A UAE resident who does not maintain an eligible Indian account will not gain a new wallet from this launch. The Robius comparison of UAE wallets remains the more relevant guide for people deciding how to move local salary, card, and remittance money.
Likewise, this is a booking payment feature, not a broader travel-money product. The Emirates crypto payment review showed a similar distinction. A new payment button can be legitimate and useful without changing the best payment method for most customers.
The Exchange-Rate Question
At the Top prices its tickets in AED. A UPI user ultimately needs to know the INR amount that will leave the linked bank account and whether the payer’s bank, app, or payment chain applies a conversion margin or fee.
The public launch reporting confirms the new acceptance route, but it does not provide a single universal consumer exchange rate. Robius also did not find a public fee table that guarantees the same conversion outcome for every UPI app and issuing bank.
So compare the final INR amount shown at authorization with the AED ticket price. A convenient payment method can still be a poor-value option if the conversion is materially worse than the traveler’s card. Take a screenshot of the final quote and confirmation before closing the app.
What Happens if the Booking Fails
Cross-border payments can create an awkward gap between the attraction, the UAE payment partner, the UPI network, the customer’s bank, and the app used to authorize the transaction. The customer may see a debit before the merchant sees a confirmed booking.
If that happens, first check whether Emaar issued a booking reference. Then check the UPI transaction status inside the payment app. Do not pay a second time immediately unless the first payment is clearly failed or reversed, because duplicate booking payments are harder to unwind than a delayed confirmation.
For a cancellation or refund, the attraction’s ticket conditions still control whether a refund is available. The payment method does not automatically make a non-refundable ticket refundable. This is why the booking date, time, ticket type, and cancellation terms matter before payment.
Use Only the Official Booking Route
A famous attraction plus a new payment method is ideal material for impersonation. A fake page can copy the Burj Khalifa name, offer an unrealistic discount, and then display a fraudulent UPI request or payment QR code.
Start from Emaar’s official entertainment website or the official Burj Khalifa website. The Dubai travel-booking scam warning explains the recurring pattern: urgency, discounts, copied branding, and payment requests that move the customer away from the verified merchant.
Never type a UPI PIN into a website, message, or form. Authorization belongs inside the approved UPI or bank app. A request to “receive a refund” should not require you to approve a payment or disclose the PIN.
Does UPI Beat a Card Here?
For an Indian visitor who uses UPI daily and does not want to expose card details, it can be the simplest route. The payment starts in a familiar system, is approved on the user’s own device, and can be completed before departure.
A card may still be preferable when its travel exchange rate, rewards, insurance, or dispute protection is stronger. The best choice depends on the amount shown at checkout and the protections attached to the customer’s specific card or bank account, not on which payment button feels newer.
The du Pay review and the UAE remote-worker technology stack make the same point from different angles. Payment convenience is most valuable when it fits the accounts and protections a user already has.
The Bottom Line
UPI support for At the Top is a genuine convenience feature for Indian visitors. It makes a well-known Dubai attraction easier to book through a payment method many travelers already trust and understand.
Use it for that reason, not because UPI is automatically cheaper or more refundable than a card. Verify the domain, compare the final INR cost, keep the booking and payment references, and read the ticket conditions before you approve the transaction.
