The short answer
Updated 10 September 2026: ICP’s official position remains clear: Golden Residency is a fixed-term, renewable government residence — generally 5 or 10 years depending on category — and the authority has explicitly denied claims of lifetime Golden Visas…
Updated 10 September 2026: the central verdict survives intact. The UAE Golden Residency is real. The viral “lifetime Golden Visa for around AED 100,000” offer is not an official UAE residence product.
On 8 July 2025, the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security — ICP — explicitly denied rumours that the UAE was granting lifetime Golden Residency to selected nationalities. ICP also said Golden Visa applications are handled exclusively through official government channels and that no internal or external consultancy is recognised as an authorised party in the application process.
What ICP Actually Denied
The 2025 rumour claimed that certain nationalities could obtain a nomination-based lifetime Golden Visa by paying a large fee through an outside consultancy.
ICP’s response was unusually direct. It said the reports about lifetime Golden Residency for selected nationalities were false, that Golden Residency categories and conditions are set by official laws and decisions, and that people should use the authority’s official website or smart application for the real requirements.
ICP also warned people not to pay money or hand personal documents to entities claiming to provide that unofficial service.
The Real Golden Residency Is Fixed-Term and Renewable
ICP’s current Golden Residency guide describes long-term residence for five or ten years, with renewal subject to the applicable category and requirements.
The programme covers defined categories such as investors, entrepreneurs, exceptional talents and specialised expertise, outstanding students and graduates, humanitarian pioneers and frontline heroes. The precise term and evidence are not identical across every category.
That is why Robius should not replace one scam simplification with another. “Golden Visa = ten years” is not universally correct across every current ICP category, just as “Golden Visa = lifetime” is plainly false.
Nomination Is a Real Government Service — but That Does Not Validate the Scam
One reason the fake offer can sound convincing is that ICP genuinely has a Golden Residency Nomination Application service for qualifying categories.
The difference is decisive: the real nomination process is an ICP government pre-approval service submitted through ICP’s Smart Services website or application. It is not a private consultancy selling an independently guaranteed lifetime status.
So the word “nomination” by itself is not the scam signal. The red flag is a seller claiming that its own private nomination bypasses the official criteria or guarantees approval.
Use the Exact Government Route for Your Category
For federal ICP services, current Golden Residency applications and nomination services are available through ICP’s official digital channels. Dubai-specific residence and property routes can also involve GDRFA Dubai and Dubai Land Department services.
The old article said every application was assessed “by ICP” and then separately mentioned GDRFA. That was too neat. The authority and service channel depend on the category and emirate. The safest workflow is to start from the current government service page for the exact route you are using.
A Private Consultant Is Not an Approval Authority
ICP’s official lifetime-rumour denial says no internal or external consultancy is recognised as an authorised party in the Golden Visa application process.
That does not mean a person can never pay a lawful business for translation, document preparation or general administrative assistance. It means the consultant does not acquire government approval power, cannot guarantee eligibility, and should not present itself as an official Golden Residency intermediary when ICP says applications are handled through government channels.
The old Robius instruction to “check the ICP or GDRFA list of authorised providers” was too vague and has been removed. Use only the service centres, typing centres or other channels explicitly listed on the current government service you are applying through.
Do Not Treat 100% Company Ownership as a Golden Visa Benefit
The old article listed “full business ownership” as though it were a benefit created by the Golden Visa itself.
That is misleading. UAE business-ownership rights depend on company law, licensing activity, emirate, free-zone or mainland structure and other rules. Foreign ownership reforms extend far beyond Golden Residency holders.
A Golden Residency can make long-term living and business planning easier, but it should not be sold as the legal switch that gives a person 100% ownership of any UAE business.
The Crypto Golden Visa Rumour Was Also Denied
In July 2025, ICP, the then-Securities and Commodities Authority and VARA also jointly denied reports that investing in digital currencies by itself qualified someone for UAE Golden Residency.
The lesson is broader than one scam: a real investment product and a real Golden Residency programme can be combined into a false eligibility claim. Always verify the residence category independently from the investment marketing.
Red Flags That Still Hold
- “Lifetime Golden Visa.” ICP has specifically denied this rumour.
- Guaranteed approval. A private seller cannot guarantee the government’s eligibility decision.
- Nationality shortcut. A claim that selected passports can buy the lifetime route described in the viral offer is false.
- Private payment presented as the visa fee. Check the actual government service fee and payment channel.
- Pressure to send passport or Emirates ID copies before you can verify the company and service.
- A private link pretending to be an ICP, GDRFA or DLD application page.
- An investment marketed as automatically producing Golden Residency without identifying the exact government category and criteria.
How to Verify a Golden Residency Claim
- Identify the exact Golden Residency category being claimed.
- Open the current ICP, GDRFA or relevant emirate government service page yourself.
- Compare the promised residence term, eligibility criteria and documents with the government page.
- Use only the official application/service channels identified there.
- Do not treat a consultant’s trade licence as proof that the consultant can approve residence.
- If the claim depends on property, check the exact DLD residence service separately.
- If it depends on an investment product, verify both the investment regulation and the immigration eligibility independently.
If You Have Already Paid a Suspicious Seller
Do not send additional money to “release”, “upgrade” or “activate” the residence. Preserve the offer, invoices, payment details, messages and identity information used by the seller. Contact your bank promptly if a transfer may have been fraudulent and report suspected fraud through the appropriate UAE police channel.
For Golden Residency information, ICP’s current contact page lists 600 522 222 inside the UAE and +971 600 522 222 from outside the country.
Real Programme vs Fake Shortcut
| Real Golden Residency | Fake shortcut | |
|---|---|---|
| Authority | Official UAE government service | Private seller claims approval power |
| Term | Fixed term, typically 5 or 10 years depending on category | “Lifetime” |
| Eligibility | Category-specific official criteria | Flat fee, nationality or invented investment shortcut |
| Application | Current official government channel for the category/emirate | Private payment link or guaranteed consultancy route |
The Bottom Line
The Golden Residency programme is legitimate. The “lifetime visa for AED 100,000” story is not.
ICP itself denied the lifetime-nationality rumour and said Golden Visa applications are managed through official government channels, with no consultancy recognised as an authorised party in that process.
The safest Robius rule is therefore simple: verify the exact residence category on the exact current government service page. Do not buy the adjective “lifetime”, the promise “guaranteed”, or the idea that a private nomination outranks the government criteria.
